Here are the last of my dragons sculpted by Tom Meier for Ral Partha in America and released under licence by Citadel in Britain.
Two of them, the Fire Dragon and Black Dragon, are original miniatures
from the 80s while the Zombie and Blue Dragons are modern casts acquired from
Ral Partha Europe and Miniature Heroes respectively.
All of these required some effort to build as there were
notable gaps in the joins which needed filling with greenstuff and sculpting to
match the surrounding. I was surprised at the time how well this went once I
found the right tool and moved the greenstuff in the right direction. It had
not occurred to me until that point that the greenstuff tools I used were
basically the same as the ones used to sculpt the originals and that the
ability to match scale patters was therefore no coincidence!
I painted them in line with their names, not terribly original but it seemed appropriate. For the Zombie dragon I tried to stick quite closely to the John Blanche box art with the addition of a blue eye (possibly influenced by Game of Thrones although not consciously at the time). I had all sorts of plans to add more detail to the Zombie Dragon's base but none of them thus far quite worked for me so it currently has a rather plain base. The others got a bit more work. I had originally planned to sculpt or improvise basing materials, but the scenic grasses etc. you can get these days are so nice I couldn’t resist using them. As I mentioned in a previous post I try to ensure all of my minis are at least in theory useable in a game of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, so are based accordingly. While I tend towards Third Edition, which was the version I first got into, there are no rules for undead dragons in this version. This is a shame as the Second Edition rules for the Zombie Dragon in White Dwarf 75 are brilliant.
